Location and soil
The Sauvignon Blanc grapes for this wine come from the Sandberg vineyard (340 m). The soil is
sandy and gravelly (Grunder layers – deposits from the Tertiary sea).
Vineyard management
Our vineyards are Demeter-certified and are cultivated biodynamically according to the principles of
Rudolf Steiner.
Vinification
Selective harvest by hand in mid-October. After several hours of skin contact, the wine was pressed
and spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks. After several months on the lees, the wine was
racked and aged on the fine lees until bottling. In spring 2024, the wine was bottled unfined, unfiltered,
and with a minimal amount of sulfur.
Vintage 2022
The 2022 wine year began with a mild winter – snowless, with winds that further dried out the soil. A
temperature of -7°C at the beginning of January was an exception. February already brought spring-
like temperatures. A few frosty days in March (-8°C) alternated with low temperatures. Despite small
amounts of rain in March and April, the hope for rain in early spring was not fulfilled; however, mild
weather ensured even bud break on May 7th, followed by some important thunderstorms. Fortunately,
our vineyards were spared severe storms and hail damage again this year. June brought summer with
hot weather and rain. Flowering took place between June 6th and 18th. The summer brought some
heavy thunderstorms, but also high temperatures up to 38°C, which again dried out the soil. From mid-
August onwards, high temperatures alternated with small amounts of rain (a tropical night on August
17th). We started the grape harvest on September 15th. Several small amounts of rain in September
led to interruptions in the harvest. The main harvest in October was blessed with sunny and dry
weather, concluding on October 19th. The 2022 vintage yielded wines with elegant character and
vibrant freshness. This vintage holds special significance for our family, as our father and grandfather,
Rudolf Fidesser, passed away on October 29th, 2022, at the age of 88. We dedicate this vintage to
him!
Wine description
Medium greenish-yellow. Gooseberry and a hint of blackcurrant on the nose. On the palate, a touch of
lovage with delicate herbal spice; noticeable salinity. The finish is cassis, subtly spicy, with rich quartz
minerality and lively acidity. Excellent aging potential.
