Location, soil and vines
The White Traminer comes from the Höhweingarten vineyard, a plateau on the Platter Kapellenberg. The soil of this vineyard consists of calcareous marl layers and loess deposits. The vines are of a rare Traminer variety. The small bunches have pale yellow berries with high sugar levels and noticeably more acidity compared to other Traminer varieties.
Vineyard management
Our vineyards are Demeter-certified and are cultivated biodynamically according to the principles of Rudolf Steiner.
Vinification
Selective harvest by hand in mid-October, pressed after several hours of skin contact and spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks. Aged for several months on the fine lees. The wine was then bottled unfined with a minimal amount of sulfur.
Vintage 2023
After an extremely dry winter, the much-needed and substantial rainfall arrived in April and May. The late bud break was a positive development, as it prevented damage from the dreaded late frosts. The weather during the also late flowering of the vines was quite unsettled. The first heat wave of the year began at the end of June, followed by a hot and very dry summer. Rainfall at the beginning of August provided some relief. The entire growing season was repeatedly interrupted by hailstorms, but Platt was fortunately spared. After the August rains, ripening progressed steadily. The harvest at our winery began on September 11th and ended on October 19th in glorious autumn weather. In general, the 2023 vintage is producing dense, juicy wines with clear fruit aromas and a well-rounded acidity. The autumn of 2023 not only brought good grapes but also a new addition to our family: Charlotte Sophie Fidesser was born on September 28th, 2023. We are all the more excited for a vintage with aging potential.
