Location and soil
The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine come from the Kapellenberg vineyard in the Weinviertel village of
Platt. The soil of this vineyard is calcareous with subsoil of clay marl (deposits from the Tertiary sea),
topped with light loess deposits.
Vineyard management
Our vineyards are Demeter-certified and are cultivated biodynamically according to the principles of
Rudolf Steiner.
Vinification
Selective harvest by hand in mid-September. The grapes were destemmed and spontaneously
fermented on the skins; malolactic fermentation and aging took place in used wooden barrels (600 l).
Bottled in September 2025.
Vintage 2022
The 2022 wine year began with a mild winter – snowless, with winds that further dried out the soil. A
temperature of -7°C at the beginning of January was an exception. February already brought spring-
like temperatures. A few frosty days in March (-8°C) alternated with low temperatures. Despite small
amounts of rain in March and April, the hope for rain in early spring was not fulfilled; however, mild
weather ensured even bud break on May 7th, followed by some important thunderstorms. Fortunately,
our vineyards were spared severe storms and hail damage again this year. June brought summer with
hot weather and rain. Flowering took place between June 6th and 18th. The summer brought some
heavy thunderstorms, but also high temperatures up to 38°C, which again dried out the soil. From mid-
August onwards, high temperatures alternated with small amounts of rain (a tropical night on August
17th). We started the harvest on September 15th. Several small amounts of rain in September led to
interruptions in the harvest. The main harvest in October was blessed with sunny and dry weather,
concluding on October 19th. The 2022 vintage yielded wines with elegant character and vibrant
freshness. This vintage holds special significance for our family, as our father and grandfather, Rudolf
Fidesser, passed away on October 29th, 2022, at the age of 88. We dedicate this vintage to him!
Wine description
Rust-red; rich aroma of wild raspberries; lively, elegantly bitter herbal spice on the palate, light nougat,
and forest floor. Delicate and inviting with a noticeable minerality; pronounced fruit expression and a
lingering finish.
